Affordable housing, police accountability and economic development on Topeka s east side were among a number of topics the city s five mayoral candidates discussed Tuesday in a forum hosted by the local African-American Women s Voter Alliance.
The forum moderated by Christine Smith, the group s founder, and Timothy Smith, a senior adviser to the alliance was meant to inform voters and shed light on issues of importance to Topeka s Black community.
Nearly two dozen questions were asked of candidates Daniel Brown, Leo Cangiani, Patrick Klick, John Lauer and Mike Padillia, with each person given about a minute to respond. Though some questions went unanswered, candidates gave attendees and viewers watching through a livestream on Facebook a better idea of their positions and policy initiatives.
