Quick Start Leads Knights Over Hi-Liner Boys

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Grand Forks Central jumped out to a 35-20 halftime lead and held off a late comeback by Valley City for a 70-60 win Tuesday night in Grand Forks. Alex Barbot led the Knights with 26 points. Sam Strandell and Ty Lorenz had 13 points each. Strandell added eight rebounds and five assists. Mason Gravseth had a double-double with 10 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Valley City was led by Peyton Zaun with 21 points and seven rebounds. Drew Zaun had 12 points and Jarred Eggermont just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Central improves to 4-9 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 4-10 overall. Valley City falls to 4-11 in the EDC and 3-12 overall.

Hi-Liners Use Balance Scoring To Down Spartans

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City used a very balanced offense and a strong second half for a 75-46 win over Fargo North at the Hi-Liner Activity Center Tuesday night in girls basketball. The 75 points is a season high for Valley City as eight different players scored for the Hi-Liners and six of those had at least eight points. North lead most of the first half following a three-pointer by Emily Skalicky with 16:22 to go in the first half to take a 5-4 lead. That lead would expand to five at 9-4 after Grace Miller’s inside bucket banked in to with 14:48 to go in the half.

Martinson Leads Firebirds Over Hi-Liners

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Devils Lake used a 15-0 run as part of a 15-5 start on the way to a 67-50 win over Valley City in High School Basketball Friday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. Valley City got a 3-pointer and a bucket inside by Samantha Hatcher to take a 5-0 lead 90 seconds into the game. But Malayna Barendt would start the run that gave the Firebirds the lead. Jailyn Martinson would end the run with a bucket inside with 13:00 to go in the first half. That lead would grow to 14 at 22-8 after a Martinson bucket inside with 10:29 remaining.

Spartans Down Hi-Liners With Second Half Surge

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Fargo North used a 14-0 run to turn a five point deficit into a nine point lead midway through the second half on the way to a 74-60 come-from-behind win over Valley City Thursday night in boys basketball at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. North led by as much as 11 in the first half at 20-9 after Isaac Cody’s three pointer with 11:09 remaining in the half. Cody was fouled in the act of shooting but missed the free throw to keep it at 11. Valley City would use a 15-4 run to tie the game at 24 capped off by two free throws by Alex Thornton with 6:09 remaining in the first half.
