Two men have been charged as armed habitual criminals after police located a car that sped off from a traffic stop and found guns in the vehicle.
Police pulled the vehicle over Monday night in the 1700 block of East Edwards, but as officers approached, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. Police found the vehicle about 25 minutes later behind a residence on East Jackson. Officers observed the driver get out of the car and enter a different vehicle driven by another man. Police identified him as the driver they had initially pulled over.

Springfield police have arrested another suspected gang member on firearms charges.
Officers made a traffic stop Monday evening in the 1900 block of East Edwards, but as they were talking to the driver, he sped off. Police say the suspect, 18-year-old Zuriel Poe, struck the median on Clear Lake Avenue then took off on foot. Officers saw him jump from the nearby overpass and pursued him, eventually taking him into custody. They say they found a loaded semi-automatic handgun near where he was apprehended. Poe… who was out on bond for a firearms arrest earlier this month… is facing multiple weapons charges.
