All teams in the Eastlink South Division, including the Summerside Western Capitals, made the decision last night. In a statement, MHL President Steve Dykeman says it was not an easy decision for any club, and they’ve tried throughout the season to keep playing in a safe manner. He also thanked players and team staff for their sacrifices and commitment to keeping the season going. The league also announced that the Canadian Tire Cup will not be awarded for the second straight season.

The schedule for the pre-playoff games is structured to give teams who finished higher in the regular season, based on point percentage an advantage with the opponents in their home games. In addition, the top two teams will start the round-robin with additional points as a reward for their play during the regular season. Yarmouth will be given four points, while Amherst will have two points. As announced earlier this month, the round-robin will use the Fred Page Cup point system with regulation wins worth 3 points, overtime wins worth 2 points, and an overtime loss worth 1 point.

MHL Prepares Teams & Fans For Wild Play-Off Format

Maritime Junior Hockey League Logo. Photo (MHL) The Maritime Hockey League is about to go into its play-offs with a never before seen format to determine seeding. The league has announced it will adopt a round robin style tournament where each team will place their divisional opponents once to determine first round play-off match-ups. President Steve Dykeman says teams have rarely been on a level playing field this year and the format will reset the field. “The 2020-21 regular season has not been a “regular” season. Our players and team staff have persevered through an unprecedented period,” said Dykeman. “With the changes in restrictions throughout the region over the past five months, teams have rarely been on an even playing field. The round robin will allow us to reset the field, while maintaining an advantage for teams that fared better during the regular season.”

Lumbejacks To Welcome Fans Back This Week

The LCLC in Bridgewater, NS. Photo: Evan Taylor With restrictions on sports attendance being partially lifted this Monday the South Shore Lumberjacks will be able to welcome back fans to the LCLC this Friday. Part owner Ross Shatford says that they will only be allowed to have 400 fans with 100 in each of the four sections of the arena. “400 is right around the amount where we are able to break even on home games, it’s obviously not ideal but we understand that hockey isn’t the most important thing right now,” Shatford says. The Lumberjacks will play their first game with fans in over two months as they host the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. on February 15.
