New Superintendent Named at EAWR High School

WBGZ Radio 4/9/2021 | By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio   The East Alton-Wood River Community High School board has chosen a new superintendent. Current Sandoval Superintendent Rob Miller will assume the duties as head of the district on July 1, as current Superintendent Dr. John Pearson announced his retirement at the November board meeting. At that time, the board began a search that wound up with Miller being named to the position. Prior to his work in Sandoval, where he has served as Superintendent since 2018, Miller had over a decade of administrative experience as the Principal and Athletic Director at Madison Jr-Sr High School and began his educational career as a school social worker in the Granite City School District in 1999. Pearson has led EAWR since July of 2000 and closes out a 40-year career in public education.

Wood River Marjorie Ann (Woosley) Palermo, 92, passed away at 4:56 am, Saturday, March 13, 2021 at her home with her family at her side. She was born December 19, 1928 in Winchester, the fourth child of Anson Oral and Grace May (Anders) Woosley. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling with her friends and playing fast pitch softball. In 1942, the family moved from Winchester to East Alton. Marjorie graduated from East Alton-Wood River Community High School with the class of 1947. In 1945, she was voted by the student body to be their Harvest Queen. She was a member of Holy Angels Parish in Wood River and also the funeral luncheon committee.

EAWR Increases In-Person Learning Days | Alton Daily News

WBGZ Radio 3/12/2021 | By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio   East Alton-Wood River Community High School will see in-person learning increased to four days a week, starting Tuesday. Mondays will still be a remote-learning day, but students will return to campus Tuesdays through Fridays beginning at 8am March 16. Like many other schools, EA/WR has executed a blend of in class instruction for their classes and some online requirements to finish at home. Since last August. EA/WR Superintendent Dr. John Pearson tells the Big Z what a typical school day will look like. Click here for Pearson s comments There will still be safety precautions in effect. Everyone in the building will be asked to keep a 6-foot distance when possible, and all students and staff will need to self-certify their health upon entering. Temperature checks will go from being mandatory to optional. There will still be an option for those not comfortable returning to class to continue remote learning.
