Gala dinner serves up $40,000 for annual appeal
A charity dinner featuring culinary delights from some of the city’s top chefs has raised almost $41,000 for the annual Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Appeal.
Kicking-off the fundraising for this year’s appeal, the second annual 5-Star Chefs for Charity gala dinner was held at Shangri-La The Marina Cairns on Saturday evening (24 July).
Themed “A White Christmas in July”, the event was attended by 160 guests, who were treated to four-course dinner, prepared by the head chefs from Hilton Cairns, Pullman Cairns International, Shangri-La The Marina Cairns and the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino.

Isol-Aid is one of the few, precious success stories of the music industry’s long, nightmarish pandemic. Last year when all concerts were cancelled, Ulman and fellow musician Merpire put on their thinking caps and started the weekly online concert series to help musos stay active and grow their followings.
‘Don’t Go Loving The Same’ is another impassioned, dynamic track from the emerging singer-songwriter.
Lead singer of indie-pop quintet Creature Fear, Jacqui Lumsden, is stepping out on her own with her new solo project.
With two vibrant 2021 singles, ‘Brother Bear’ and ‘A Place To Call My Own’ under her belt, Lumsden’s forthcoming track, ‘Don’t Go Loving The Same’, is another impassioned, dynamic release from the emerging singer-songwriter.

Since moving from Warrnambool to Melbourne, Lumsden has been an active member of the city’s music community.
She’s performed at venues all over the country, including slots at major festivals such as Beyond The Valley and NYE on the Hill with Creature Fear, as well as sharing the stage with the likes of Ball Park Music, Killing Heidi, and Aunty Donna.

With the music industry in Oceania still doing it pretty tough after a year dealing with COVID-19, Isol-Aid and Vistaprint s 99designs have teamed up to offer creative and financial support to emerging bands and musicians across Australia and New Zealand.
Isol-Aid Homegrown is a new 16 week program where emerging local acts are invited to perform alongside established artists as part of Isol-Aid’s online festival.
25 acts will receive $2,000 worth of design work from professional artists to create promotional materials such as t-shirts, posters, and album art, while one act will also be selected by a panel of judges to receive a $10,000 grant to boost their career and creative growth, alongside a dedicated mentoring session from Australian rock band Killing Heidi s singer and solo artist, Ella Hooper.
