A Thursday morning building fire caused significant damage to several businesses, including the nonprofit Clive Community Services.
According to a news release from the city, the fire began around 10 a.m. in the lower level of the building on 2190 82nd St. Officials from the Clive Fire Department believe the fire was caused when maintenance work created a spark that ignited nearby flammable objects.
The unit where the fire started which was being used as a maintenance storage area by its occupants, according to Clive Fire Marshal Clay Garcia sustained the most damage. Other units, such as Clive Community Services, sustained mainly smoke and water damage.
