Once again, the peace and quiet of Elk Springs subdivision is disturbed by a low level turbocharged airplane, likely flying out of Glenwood Springs airport. I know it was turbocharged because of the extreme noise it created and how fast the pilot was doing loops.
This occurred at 10 a.m. and lasted for 20 minutes. Why must the pilots from Glenwood airport choose a populated area to do aerobatics?
It is not only a nuisance, it is also an extreme fire risk. If the plane were to experience engine failure and go down, it could create a wildland fire that would take significant resources to deal with.
This week’s Roaring Fork School District board meeting starts off a little differently: Students from high schools and middle schools in the district will be taking the spotlight.
Instead of inviting folks to the standard Zoom link from which meetings can be accessed, Angie Davlyn, senior project manager for RFSD, said things will be kicked off on a Google Meet link so members of the board can see the students whose accomplishments they’ll be celebrating.
“It fills a role for the board members to be able to have the ability to honor and celebrate students who have achieved these very significant awards,” Davlyn said.

It was an overcast and blustery day in Glenwood Springs, but the bright orange vests of the Glenwood Springs Middle School staff spread along a 2-mile stretch on U.S. Highway 6 were impossible to miss. With trash bags in hand, they were steadily working their way through the debris and garbage that had been discarded alongside the highway, everything from flattened cardboard boxes to cigarette butts.
Cassandra Alsip, a Humanities teacher for 7th grade and Glenwood Springs native, said especially for middle school students, that they watch their teachers and like seeing them do what they’re trying to teach, a walk the walk and talk the talk situation.
