BITS AND PIECES: Wooster’s longest operating funeral home
Ann Gasbarre
Sleek wrote that the first McIntire Funeral Home started in 1902 when A.C. McIntire became associated with the Christine Brothers Funeral Parlor . operating at the time in rooms above the McIntire Furniture Store on West Liberty Street.
Several years later, the establishment became known as Danford, McIntire and Nixon Funeral Home . then as McIntire and Nixon.
In 1927, McIntire became the sole owner and in the early 1930s he opened a funeral home at the current Larwill Street location after purchasing the property from John Jameson, M.D. The funeral director converted the former residence into a modern funeral home and he and his wife lived in a private 10-room suite on the second floor.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Family members have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run while crossing Cleveland Road in Jacksonville as Darnell Pittmon, 65.
On Wednesday night, loved ones held a vigil to remember him. Detectives have not released a description of the vehicle or the driver, and the family hopes someone who saw something will speak up.
“Please come forward,” said Pittmon’s sister, Marie. “Have a heart. Have mercy. We’re suffering.”
The vigil was held near Cleveland Road and Edgewood Avenue, where Pittmon was killed Sunday night. Family members, friends and loved ones sang and prayed for answers in the man’s death.
