BITS AND PIECES: Wooster’s longest operating funeral home
Ann Gasbarre
Sleek wrote that the first McIntire Funeral Home started in 1902 when A.C. McIntire became associated with the Christine Brothers Funeral Parlor . operating at the time in rooms above the McIntire Furniture Store on West Liberty Street.
Several years later, the establishment became known as Danford, McIntire and Nixon Funeral Home . then as McIntire and Nixon.
In 1927, McIntire became the sole owner and in the early 1930s he opened a funeral home at the current Larwill Street location after purchasing the property from John Jameson, M.D. The funeral director converted the former residence into a modern funeral home and he and his wife lived in a private 10-room suite on the second floor.
