PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. â Health officials along the Treasure Coast are warning residents of a new COVID mutation.
âI think people should be concerned,â said Pulmonologist Dr. Mark Pamer. âWe re at the beginning of this delta wave that s really overtaking the United States. We ve seen it in India and we saw it in Europe.â
âOver the past couple of month s we ve been averaging between 25 and 30 cases a day,â said Clint Sperber, Administrator at Florida Department of Health St Lucie. âSince the beginning of July, we have seen that number increase and probably double.â
When emergency management centers activate for a storm, COVID-19 vaccination efforts will come to a screeching halt. What happens to the vaccine doses and what happens if people are in the middle of a vaccine series are all new scenarios each county is preparing for.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. â Vaccines are being offered this week for the first time to children ages 12 to 15 in St. Lucie County.
When the Pfizer vaccine was cleared for use on younger children, Irene Ledlow said her 13-year-old daughter made the call. She wants it, Ledlow said.
After fighting off a childhood health scare, the decision was easier. Her take on it was, I donât want to go the hospital. Iâve been there, and I donât want to go back, Ledlow said.
The clinics at DOH-St. Lucie are a convenient way to protect yourself and loved ones against COVID-19, said Nicole Rodriguez, DOH-St. Lucie spokesperson. It’s also an opportunity for parents to have their children ages 12 or older protected against this highly contagious virus.
DOH-St. Lucie urges the community to get vaccinated as a tool to end the pandemic, Rodriguez added. The department also encourages those who have been vaccinated to continue to follow the CDC guidelines, so our community can resume life as normal again, she said.
