It might be too soon for a full-blown monsoon, but heavy rains were forecast throughout southern Colorado until Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Pueblo said.
Klint Skelly, National Weather Service meteorologist, said that many cities in the southern half of Colorado, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Las Animas, and Cañon City could see rains.
In Colorado Springs, rain showers were likely on Saturday, with a 70% chance for showers and a 50% chance for a thunderstorm.
The rains, Skelly said, come before this year s monsoon season, but were part of a different weather pattern moving in from the Midwest.
There was some chance for severe thunderstorms, but Skelly said they weren t very high, with the greatest probability of severe storms tomorrow being in southern Las Animas and Baca counties.
Colorado Springs weather teetered between spring and winter-like days throughout April, and Monday s weather is expected to head in the direction of winter with several inches of snow predicted in the region, the National Weather Service in Pueblo said.
A fast-moving storm could bring as much as 6 inches of snow to northern parts of El Paso County near Monument and Palmer Lake, with close to 2 inches of snow in the heart of Colorado Springs. But amounts could vary depending on the movement of the storm, Klint Skelly, a meteorologist with the weather service, said.
The speed of the storm could cause a flash freeze icing roads, Skelly said.

In some states, the month of March is a time when people trade in their winter coats for windbreakers as they turn their thoughts to springtime.
But when March comes blowing in along the Front Range, experienced residents stock up on rock salt and top off the gas tanks on their snow blowers.
March is typically the snowiest month of the year in the Pikes Peak region, and 2021 was no different. Colorado Springs saw nearly twice its average snowfall for the month.
On average, the city saw about around 15 inches of snow in over the past month, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo. It was nearly double the 8.1” average snowfall, but only about half the record of 30.1 inches, set in 1909.
