An 18-year-old was charged with murder following the shooting death of a 19-year-old woman back in February, the Temple Police Department said Thursday.
On Feb. 24, Temple police responded to a shooting just after midnight in the 1800 block of E. French Avenue. Officers found Claire Hernandez suffering from a gunshot wound and transported her to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center where she later died, police said.
A suspect in a Temple shooting â previously charged with manslaughter â was arrested on a murder warrant Wednesday evening by the Bell County Sheriffâs Department.
Christopher James DeLeon Jr., 18, was taken into custody after the warrant was issued Wednesday, Temple police spokeswoman Alejandra Arreguin said.
No bond had been set Thursday afternoon for DeLeon, who remained in custody at the Bell County Jail, online records show.
DeLeon is charged in the Feb. 24 death of 19-year-old Claire Hernandez, who died during a shooting in February in the 1800 block of East French Avenue. He was initially charged with manslaughter after his arrest in February.

Christopher James DeLeon Jr., 18, faces a manslaughter charge and remained in custody Monday at the Bell County Jail in connection with the Feb. 24 death of Claire Hernandez. His bond is set at $125,000 for the second-degree felony charge, jail records show.
DeLeon and Hernandez were sitting in his vehicle when the shooting occurred at about 12:19 a.m. in the 1800 block of East French Avenue, the affidavit said.
DeLeon âkept stating that a vehicle drove by and fired a single shot,â Temple Police Detective John Leach said in the affidavit. âHe was unable to describe the vehicle to officersâ¦.He said that a car came by and then another one when he heard a shot. He then saw the victim bleeding from the face and unresponsive.â
