Mason Hall/Moriah residents: We wanted Sheldon

Former representative Sheldon Cunningham Dissatisfaction over the People’s National Movement’s (PNM’s) rejection of Sheldon Cunningham as its representative contributed significantly to the party losing the Mason Hall/Moriah/Providence seat in the January 25 THA election. So claimed residents of the electoral district, which Cunningham had represented for the past seven years. Speaking to Newsday Tobago on Wednesday, the residents said since being elected in 2013, Cunningham had distinguished himself as a representative for two consecutive terms. But during the PNM’s screening of candidates for seat, in October, the party rejected him in favour of former secretary for infrastructure, quarries and the environment Kwesi Des Vignes.

L.E. Phillips Family Foundation donates $1.5 million to Eau Claire library of same name January 22, 2021 11:32 AM Site staff EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) The L.E. Phillips Family Foundation has gifted $1.5 million to the Story Builder campaign to benefit the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in downtown Eau Claire, the library announced Friday. The library board accepted the donation Thursday, making a huge dent in its fundraising goals for the renovation of the library. The donation is the largest pledge in the history of the library, and it brings funding to almost 93% of the total project cost ($18.5 million). The City of Eau Claire has invested $11.5 million to renovate the library’s failing mechanical systems while the Story Builder campaign is raising an additional $7 million in private funds to expand and enhance the library’s physical space a long overdue effort to meet the demands of Eau Claire’s ever-growing and evolving population.

Steubenville police Wrong place, wrong time: William T. Tunno, 33, 3729 West St. Extension, Weirton, was charged with criminal trespass after the owner of a recently burned-out home on Fourth Street allegedly caught him inside the property. The homeowner said he’d stopped by the property to pick up some possessions when he found the man inside his home, trying to steal DVDs. He told the intruder to leave but the man refused, so he removed him. Police said they’d cited Tunno earlier on the shift for possession of drugs, suboxone, and located him walking on North Seventh Street, claiming he’d told them he’d been in the residence because he thought it was abandoned.

He was transported to the Lyon County Jail, where he was served with the warrant and detained on a $2,500 cash or surety bond. WPD: threat of suicide, 2:44 p.m. Saturday. WPD: arrest for fifth-degree possession, 11:51 p.m. Saturday. Osceola County Sheriff’s Office: Robert Thomas Johnson, 35, of Sibley, Iowa was arrested Sunday for allegedly operating while under the influence-first offense. He was transported and booked into the Osceola County Jail, and later released on a $1,000 unsecured appearance bond. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on Iowa 9 near VanBuren Avenue.
