Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Claudia Cornejo affirmed that the Marca Peru (Peru Brand) has been a fundamental tool to promote the country as a relevant tourist destination around the world. In addition, it has allowed us to secure exports of our products, as well as to attract investments that have been important for the economic development of Peru, she explained.
The event was held within the framework of the Andean Community (CAN) member countries decision to approve Decision No. 876 on a Common Regime for Country Brands.
By approving this decision, member states of this economic bloc will protect their country brand, through a free and simplified procedure, thus preventing its unauthorized use by third parties in territories where the brand is protected.
Peruvian goods trade outpaces growth in Latin America
Yesterday, Peru’s Foreign T
rade and Tourism Minister Claudia Cornejo stated that the international trade of Peruvian goods grew by 14.9% in the first quarter of 2021. This is a higher rate than that achieved by trade in Latin America, which saw a growth of 9.5%.
This performance is the outcome of the increase in national imports (+17.5%) and exports (+12.6%), which jointly reached the figure of US$21.651 billion between January and March. Besides this, Peru s trade balance surplus now stands at US$630 million.
Miss Cornejo affirmed that the resilience of Peruvian companies and the nation s trade policy, which added to the rise in the prices of our main export commodities and the normalization of economic activities favored the foreign trade of goods.
