Jimmy Kimmel took aim at California’s wait-and-see approach to federal guidelines easing coronavirus health and safety protocols.
The late-night host opened Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! telecast with a jab at state legislators’ hesitance to lighten up restrictions and masks mandates while other states appear to be full steam ahead on adopting new federal regulations. Thank you for joining us here in sunny Southern California, where we’re still wearing masks, no matter what the CDC says, Kimmel said. The state of California said they are not lifting the mask mandate in stores and public places until June 15th, which will be known as ‘Please Stop Screaming at the Assistant Manager Day’ all over town.

Technical difficulties and a charge of lopsided access are leading opponents of a planned Charlotte Street development to call for a new hearing.
Dropped phone calls at a May 5 meeting of the Asheville Planning and Zoning Commission led to an unrepresentative showing of support and opposition for the 101 Charlotte Street project, according to the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County.
The preservation society, in a letter from lawyer Hayes Finley, says those problems and more led to a meeting that doesn t meet standards spelled out in state law.
But Wyatt Stevens, attorney representing developers RCG and the Killian family, said they respectfully disagree that the meeting violated any public hearing requirements.

For a guy who’s become another incongruous combination of super-jacked and genuinely hilarious (hello to Kumail Nanjiani), Rob McElhenney isn’t afraid to take in the liquid calories. Appearing on the Cinco de Mayo episode of
Jimmy Kimmel Live, the vaunted comedy creator came out with an in-studio tray of tequila, glasses, and fixin’s, eagerly wishing a salud to Kimmel and stalwart side-man Guillermo Rodriguez before putting away a couple of hefty, Paddy’s Pub-sized pours. Noting that (Kimmel’s boss) “Disney will love this,” McElhenney disdainfully eschewed the traditional lime chaser, instead relishing his tequila with the thought of watching Kimmel get sloshed before getting down to that whole interview business.
