(KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman can thank a couple of quick-thinking neighbors for saving her from a house fire. Around 5 p.m., a single-story home in the 200-block of Gilbert Street went up in flames. Smoke could be seen for miles. Jonesboro police confirmed fire crews and police officers have responded to a house fire Monday evening. (Source: KAIT) Mike Lovell was outside when he saw the flames. “We were sitting in the backyard over there, and we heard rushing and there was a trailer, a small camper trailer, that looked like it was on fire,” he said.

This comes after a multi-million-dollar Virginia Tech Foundation project has taken over the entire parking lot in front of them. Driving down Prices Fork Rd., it’s hard to see, but behind the construction, the shops are still fully functional. The Next Door Bake Shop, at 460 Turner Street, is one of them and it’s been open for more than a decade.

Benjamin Farrar/Courtesy of Riverside Theatre An imagining of what the stage in Riverside Theatre will look like once the theater has moved into it s new home in the Crescent Building. The past year has seen a lot of ups and downs for Iowa City s Riverside Theatre. Early in 2020, the downtown nonprofit theater kicked off the year with The Agitators, the venue s most-attended show in recent memory. The high note was followed by  Stages, which had to end its run early as the first cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Iowa. As the virus rooted itself in Iowa City and across the nation, the remaining show in Riverside s 2019-2020 season was nixed and plans for Riverside s 40th anniversary season were reorganized to account for the pandemic.
