Local artists showcase their talents at the Black Art and Film Fest in Killeen

KILLEEN, TX â Jarin Cole has been playing music for the past decade, which is over half of his life.
âIt started with my dad playing music in the car, every time we played at home, we listened to Lenny Kravitz s greatest hits catalog,â he explained. âWe just listened to that as we drove home.â
From the car to the big stage across the United States, the young violinist showcases his talents to many folks.
âI m just, I m just happy to be able to spread. music wherever I can,â he said, smiling.

Honoring a special group of soon-to-graduate seniors, Killeen ISDâs Career and Technical Education leaders distributed hundreds of purple cords in recognition of achievement above and beyond the expected.
The Killeen ISD Career Center expected about 325 seniors to participate in the celebration recently at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.
In all, about 368 seniors are set to earn more than 500 industry level certifications this year in a wide array of career-focused programs.
While the large majority of the honored students attend the Career Center, some completed their work on other high school campuses.
âThe most precious part of this to me,â said Chief College, Career, Military Readiness Officer Nancy Patterson, âis that they have all met high school requirements to graduate and these have stepped beyond.â
An annual festival will celebrate Black art and film this Saturday in Killeen. The Black Art & Film Fest will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. W.S. Young Drive.
Not only can people participate in-person, they can also participate virtually via Zoom, event organizer Luvina Sabree said.
Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance for $10 at filmfreeway.com/killeenblackartandfilmfest/tickets. Those wishing to participate virtually will be given a Zoom link.
Tickets cost $15 at the door.
In what will be the second annual installment of the festival, attendees will have the option to attend one of four workshops given by people in the theater industry.
