Spellman, who joined the Groton City Police Department in 2014 and became police chief in 2017, has announced plans to retire in May. It s my time. I ve been on this for 34 years, and it s been a very rewarding career, Spellman said of his decision to retire. He said he has been very blessed in his career and expressed his deep thanks to the people of Groton City.

Levern Flowers, 46, was sentenced in New London Superior Court to two 15-year sentences to be served concurrently, suspended after six years, followed by 10 years probation for sexually assaulting the teen at the Roadway Inn in Groton in October 2018. Flowers also was convicted of assaulting the girl in Tolland and in Old Saybrook, according to police and court records.

Rashaad knows that his twin brother, Raheem, a gifted student-athlete who became a New London police officer and died in 2007 at age 25 after a battle with cancer, is still with him every day and that people who knew Raheem are still thinking of him. For the people who didn t know Raheem, Rashaad would like them to look at the sign and know that Raheem was one of their own  a kid from Poquonnock Bridge who followed his dreams over his 25 years and is a symbol of hope that everybody can fulfill their dreams and do it the right way.

Groton Town Police Charge Man, 26, In January Henny Penny Robbery

(Groton Town Police Department ) GROTON, CT A North Stonington man is being held on $250,000 bond after being charged by Groton Town police with the robbery of a Henny Penny convenience store last month. Corby P. Stedman, 26, turned himself in on a warrant Wednesday and was charged with first-degree robbery, police said. According to Groton Town Police Department Deputy Police Chief Paul Gately, just after midnight on Jan. 23, patrol officers were called to the convenience store at 1270 Gold Star Highway for a reported robbery. Gately said a person went into the store, reportedly with a gun, and demanded the cash register be opened by the store clerk. He then left with cash, the amount not provided, and took off in a car before police got there.

The Day - Three-vehicle crash Tuesday in Groton involved school bus, sent one driver to hospital

Email Submit Groton  An accident involving a school bus and two cars took place in the area of Allyn Street and Sandy Hollow Road on Tuesday morning. One of the drivers was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening. A Wednesday news release from Groton Town Police Department said that Carlos Suc-Osorio of New London, the person who was transported to the hospital, was driving south in a 2001 Honda Civic on Allyn Street north of the Sandy Hollow Road intersection. A First Student School Bus, with Tammy Christina of Mystic driving and six students on board, also was traveling south behind the Honda Civic en route to the Groton Middle School, the release read. A third vehicle, a 2014 Ford Focus driven by Kevin Kircher of Mystic, was traveling north on Allyn Street approaching Sandy Hollow Road.
