LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A Christmas tradition isn’t sticking to its roots this year.
Members of the Christ Episcopal Church moved their Community Christmas Tree outdoors so it can be enjoyed by the entire community.
It’s standing tall out in front of the building.
What makes this tree special are the ornaments, which are hung in memory of those who have passed away.
With the rest of the year being anything but typical, this is a way to bring people together – safely.
“It’s really great to have the community come together, especially our church community. Having everybody be able to participate in some way, and some way to come to church,” said church member Christopher Donahue.
Predictions of snow, rain and ice Wednesday prompted a wave of warnings and schools closures Tuesday, canceling virtual classes and meal delivery programs.
The National Weather Service is predicting snow, rain, sleet and ice to fall across Central Virginia Wednesday. The winter storm warning kicks in at 7 a.m. and is set to expire at 4 a.m. Thursday.
Although virtual classes havenât spelled the end of the fabled snow day in some schools, area school divisions are taking different approaches to snow days this year. Albemarle County and Charlottesville school divisions have called off classes entirely while others suspended online class meetings but told students to work on assignments.
A 75-year-old New Orleans holiday tradition, Caroling in Jackson Square, will continue this year, after a fashion.
It wonât be in Jackson Square, and protocols mandated by the city during the coronavirus pandemic mean the crowd will be limited to just a few dozen. Most participants will be watching from home via livestream.
Sponsored by the Patio Planters of the Vieux Carre, âCaroling in Jackson Square 2020 Style!â will be held inside the fenced enclosure around the New Orleans Jazz Museum in the Old Mint on the Barracks Street lawn facing the French Market. About 50 Patio Planters members plus a few invited dignitaries will attend, and the event will be livestreamed.
