Cubs Injury Notes: Marisnick, Heyward, Hoerner, Happ, Arrieta, Winkler, More

Oh, it’s never good when you have enough injury bits to discuss/update that you have to break off a separate post to get into them. The Cubs are rather banged up, and it got (much?) worse yesterday. Let’s start with the new stuff. Sprinting to catch a pop fly in the first, Jake Marisnick slowed up and immediately went down. He was taken out of the game, and you knew it was going to be a legit injury – turned out to be a hamstring, and the Cubs were calling it a “strain” even before they got any tests done. Those tests will happen today (Cubs.com), and the best you can hope for is a mild strain, which would have him out maybe three weeks. I know, that’s a crummy best-case-scenario, but hamstring strains are a bitch like that. Great way to cap off another fun night with @WatchMarquee. #GoCubsGopic.twitter.com/mW6QLIO8Ey In that win, outfielder Rafael Ortega hit his THIRD homer already this season: Rafael Ortega gives Iowa a 2-0 lead over Indy with his third home run of the season! pic.twitter.com/jJghsO5ttl I just don’t know what will happen with Ortega this year, especially given that Nick Martini just got the outfield fill-in call rather than Ortega, who turns 30 this year. Having hit well over the winter and in Spring Training, and having hit well at Triple-A the last five years, there’s really not anything else Ortega can do to get a shot. Either the stars will align for a fit, or they won’t. Unfortunately, as wide open as the outfield bench picture once looked on the Cubs, it has tightene
