Chloé Lopes Gomes reached a settlement April 21 in her case against employer Staatsballet, which alleged bias played a part in the dance companyâs decision last year to not renew her contract. The proceedings resulted in an extension of her contract through the end of the 2021â2022 season and a compensation package of â¬16,000, according to
âIt was a small victory but a huge step for the ballet world,â said Gomes in an Instagram post. âAfter eight months of fight we finally found a compromise even if itâs sad to have gone through all of this. I realized that even if I feared the consequences, speaking out was the best thing to do. I encourage everyone to break the silence. And again thank you for all your support without you I couldnât have made it!â

A black ballet dancer who complained of racism at the Berlin State Ballet has been awarded €16,000 (£14,000; $19,000) in compensation and had her contract renewed, in an out-of-court settlement.
Chloé Lopes Gomes, a 29-year-old French dancer, was the first black ballerina to be hired by the company, in 2018.
On Instagram she welcomed the settlement as a small victory but a huge step for the ballet world .
She said she had been refused a white veil and told to wear white make-up.
