There is a new call for Oregon s governor to end the state s mandate requiring proof of vaccination for people to enter a business without a mask on. The Oregon Health Authority announced the mandate May 18 after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention loosened mask requirements for people who are fully vaccinated. A conservative group called Freedom Foundation, which supports limited government, sent a letter to Gov. Kate Brown demanding that she lift the vaccine status check requirement. The letter also came with the threat of a lawsuit.

George Fenton honored by House resolution

A former Umatilla superintendent and city councilor was honored in the Oregon House of Representatives recently. The House voted unanimously to adopt House Concurrent Resolution 13, honoring George I. Fenton, who died in November 2019 at the age of 88. The resolution is headed to the Senate for a vote there. Kristle Wyant, Fenton’s daughter, said it meant a lot to her to hear state legislators praise her father’s life work on the House floor. “It’s nice knowing people held him in such great respect,” she said. The resolution states Fenton “will be forever remembered as a dedicated educator and a gentleman statesman who touched countless lives and made his community a better place.”

Representative Vikki Breese Iverson of Prineville is chief sponsor of the bill. This bill is not complicated, it s simple it requires public schools to provide full-time in-person classroom instruction during the 2021-22 school year, said Iverson
