Residents aim to keep Chair City s woodworking legacy alive with makerspace program
Chair City Legacy Makerspace project to launch in May
Gardner News
GARDNER The familiar and comforting smell of sawdust and wood stain will be returning to the city this spring.
A team of local residents, dedicated to keeping the community’s legacy of woodworking alive for younger generations, will launch a pilot program aimed at providing an intergenerational skill-sharing space in May.
“Woodworking is at the heart of this project,” said Tracie Pouliot, a member of the Chair City Legacy MakerSpace’s executive team. “The core workshops will teach heritage woodworking skills that used to be handed down in furniture factories. The Gardner region is full of crafters and makers, so the (program) will also support a wide range of creative hands-on activities and shared workspace and equipment beyond woodworking.”
