SUPERIOR, Wis.– The old vacant Manning Motel on Belknap Street in Superior’s Billings Park neighborhood was torn down today.
Crews began demolition on the nine-acre lot near the Bong Bridge, which will be the new home of Kari Toyota.
Current building and supply costs are going to slow construction but completion of the building should be done within two years. Kari Toyota’s owner is excited for the future dealership space to finally get rolling.
“As all of our customers know, our sales building and our service building are separate. It’s going to be very exciting to get everything under one roof for all of our customers and to have a more modern facility,” said owner Chris Kari.

The building site, which encompasses nearly nine acres, was purchased by Kari Toyota April 30. It will become the new home of the car dealership, which is squeezed for space in its current spot downtown. Written By: Maria Lockwood | ×

The crews began the first of three days training, as new and former firefighters practiced rescue scenarios.
Firefighters were eager to have a flat roof to train on, which they don’t encounter often.
They are also working on driver training focusing on how to get water supply to an area with no hydrants around.
“We have three different shifts, all three shifts will get to use this building, which is another unique thing too, a lot of times if we get a smaller place donated, it gets beat up on the first day, and then we don’t have much left of it, so this gives us a lot of exposure,” Joe Tribbey, a Captain at the Superior Fire Department said.
In case you haven t heard, there is a shortage on new vehicles right now. Why is this happening? I ll get more into it later but basically it comes down to microchip shortages and getting manufacturing plants back up to capacity.
When COVID-19 first hit, manufacturing and industry really slowed down. There s several reasons for it. A plant works when everyone is working together on the line. If you all of a sudden need to space out workers so COVID-19 doesn t spread, then you have less workers on the line. It slows down. Not only that, but these large cafeterias where workers normally take their breaks don t work anymore. There would be too many people in them, so they needed to start staggering their workers breaks, further reducing the efficiency of the plant.
