The New South Wales mountrain ranges have been blanketed by snow after the state shivered through its coldest day in 37 years as a polar blast smashed the east coast.

Sydney is set to shiver through its coldest day in 25 years with an arctic chill still lingering over NSW.
The temperature is expected to reach 11 degrees on Thursday at Observatory Hill in the CBD, but it may feel even colder.

“We won’t have seen temperatures that cold for about 25 years,” Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Helen Reid said.
The first major cold outbreak of winter has been brought about by a very slow moving, large Antarctic cold air mass that is taking its time to move across the country.
