A young dad previously convicted of drug trafficking has learned a harsh lesson about alcohol after being jailed for assaults on a Central Queensland pub manager and patron.
Steven Ben Hoek, 25, pleaded guilty on May 19 in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one of common assault.
The assault offences breached a Supreme Court sentence handed down to Hoek in 2016 for trafficking drugs.
Hoek, and others, entered The Irish Village bar in Emerald about 10.40pm on July 5, 2020.
Manager Kim Matthews advised the group they were welcome, but the venue would be shutting soon.

A man ran into police holding a bag full of drugs after officers spotted a stolen hire car from South Australia in a central western Queensland town car park.
John Montzka, 42, could see police at the rear of the motel room he was in, so he grabbed his bag and dashed out the front door, straight into more police.
Montzka pleaded guilty on May 5 in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to one count of possessing a dangerous drugs in excess of two grams.
The court heard a police officer was at a business in Ilfracombe on March 26, 2020, when they noticed the South Australia registration plates on a vehicle outside, and then focused their attention on a female at the counter acting suspiciously.

Subscriber only A man jailed for possessing large quantities of cocaine, methamphetamines and marijuana hopes to stay away from drugs when released from prison so he can help care for his three children after their mother died last month in a crash. Kody John Cook, 34, was sentenced in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on April 28 for possessing the drugs, along charges of producing a dangerous drug, possessing firearms and ammunition and items used in the commission of a drug crime. Cook pleaded guilty to the charges which arose from police searches in the Maryborough area in June and July 2020.
