That is the standard description of the McDonald’s Magic City Classic presented by Coca-Cola. The annual fall gridiron meeting at Legion Field between Alabama State and Alabama A&M universities is the marquee event of at least a week of activity in and around Birmingham.

One day just wasn’t enough to celebrate the man who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.
Saturday, officials at the Negro Southern League Museum began several days of celebrating the legacy of former MLB great Jackie Robinson with a drive-by Honk For History.

All of Us Research Program was off to a good start in its goal of recruiting one million persons to chart their health and health histories.
“We were really rocking and rolling here in the Southern Network until, of course, March of last year,” said Dr. Cora E. Lewis, a professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology in the UAB School of Public Health and one of three principal investigators in charge of various aspects of the program at UAB.
“We were enrolling very well,” Lewis continued. “Now we’re going to get started again, and we’re well over 100,000 people already (nationally).”

You couldn’t blame Zion Webb for volunteering to make a second trip to Tennessee in as many weeks. The Jacksonville State quarterback definitely found the most recent trip to his liking as it yielded his selection as Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The redshirt junior led the Gamecocks to a 38-16 win at Tennessee State last Sunday in just the second start of his career. Webb totaled 280 passing yards and a career-high three touchdowns on 21 completions against the Tigers. The Phenix City native also gained 18 yards on five carries as Jax State improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play this spring.
