Melbourne VIC 3000
Sitting comfortably among the clouds, Australia 108 is a rather impressive sight. Its curved exterior and cantilevered star invoke a sense of modern elegance that is confirmed by the interior that features contemporary luxury seen within the multi residential buildings of today.
Residing in Southbank, adjacent to Melbourne’s CBD, the tower is an architectural marvel, that is a feat of gigantic proportions for both design firm Fender Katsalidis and Australian architecture as a whole. The tower, built by Multiplex for World Class Global took approximately seven years to complete. Encompassing 100 levels over 319 metres, the tower is the Southern Hemisphere s tallest residential building.
Architecture studio Fender Katsalidis has completed the Australia 108 skyscraper in Melbourne, which at 319 metres tall is the tallest residential building in the southern hemisphere.
The 100-storey skyscraper was designed to become a landmark on the city s skyline with a golden star dubbed the Starburst breaking its clean lines.

Above: the skyscraper has a curved ribbed form The completion of Australia 108 marks an incredible milestone for us which extends far beyond that of the building height, said Fender Katsalidis director Nicky Drobis. The design tries to redefine some of the stereotypes around how skyscrapers are expressed – from the innovative, cantilevered Starburst to the varying ways the building can be perceived.

A mixed-use development in Melbourne designed by Fender Katsalidis for Mirvac has received approval. To be built at 7 Spencer Street in the emerging Northbank precinct, the $1 billion+ two-tower development comprises a 20-storey commercial tower and a 32-storey build-to-rent tower.
While each tower has its own unique identity to fit its purpose, both buildings are connected at the podium level through a retail offering as well as shared materiality and colour palette. The design by Fender Katsalidis features highly textured and landscaped components in the podium forms, with the two tower forms showing simpler and cleaner lines.
