Many people s memories of physical education include dodge ball, basketball, even swimming, but snowshoeing might not be on that list, but it has been for several years in Billerica and has become the perfect way to get outside and exercise during the pandemic.
Cyril D. Locke Middle School physical education/health teacher Craig Flynn gathered his seventh-graders in the gymnasium Thursday, March 4, to strap on snowshoes and hit the trails behind the campus.
Flynn said the program now over seven years old has been a great way to get students outside and excited about moving.
He said it also now provides them with the space to social distance and take mask breaks which is impossible with other sports P.E. teachers have had to augment for safety as a result of COVID-19.
