The Martha s Vineyard Times Tisbury punts on Chief Saloio’s contract The Tisbury select board delayed action on Police Chief Mark Saloio s contract. —Prior Screenshot At an unusual 7 pm meeting Friday night, the Tisbury select board voted unanimously to exercise an option in the town’s contract with Police Chief Mark Saloio that would give the town more time to negotiate a new deal.  Town counsel Brian Maser characterized the option as something that offered “more flexibility and an opportunity to continue dialogue with the chief.” Maser told the board they had little time to make a decision. “So the terms of the chief’s contract call for a vote to renew or extend, or non-renew, on or before Monday, May 3,” Maser said. “This evening would be the night on which to make a motion and then take it from there in terms of what the next steps will be. It will all depend on the board’s motion,” he said.

The Martha s Vineyard Times MOU approved between Tisbury and museum Martha s Vineyard Museum entered a memorandum of understanding with Tisbury that includes paying $5,000 per year in lieu of taxes. The Martha’s Vineyard Museum will pay Tisbury $5,000 per year in lieu of taxes as part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) approved unanimously by the select board Tuesday night. The MOU codifies the conditions that were part of the development of regional impact (DRI) approval of the museum by the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, such as how many events can be held, and deals with some of the early issues with events at the museum, which opened in 2019, like the permitting process and parking.

HIGH SCHOOLS SWITCHING TO 4 DAYS OF IN-PERSON LEARNING Elementary students in a COVID-19 adapted physical education class exercise with Hula Hoops while wearing face masks. Manteca Unified high school students starting Monday will attend four full days each week of in-person learning. They will join kindergarten through eighth graders who are already back four days a week. All students will do distance learning on Wednesdays. That day will be used for more intensive cleaning of classrooms beyond the daily regimen.
