Virtual flax meeting set for March 17 | News, Sports, Jobs

Mar 5, 2021 Farmers and crop advisers will have an opportunity to receive flax production and market updates during North Dakota State University Extension’s Getting it Right virtual meeting from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 17. “North Dakota is the largest flax-producing state in the U.S. – an estimated 190,000 acres were planted in 2020 – and the crop continues to be a viable option in crop rotations,” said Greg Endres, Extension cropping systems specialist and meeting co-coordinator. The virtual meeting will cover variety considerations, plant establishment, plant nutrition, weed management, disease management with seed treatments and foliar fungicides, market update and AmeriFlax report. Canola Getting it Right Production Update Set for March 16 Hans Kandel Producers and crop advisers will have an opportunity to learn more about canola production during the Getting it Right in Canola Production online conference that North Dakota State University Extension, with support from the Northern Canola Growers Association, is holding from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 16. Canola is a major oil crop in the northern Great Plains, particularly in North Dakota. In 2020, North Dakota accounted for nearly 1.5 million harvested acres, approximately 83% of all acres harvested in the U.S., according to Hans Kandel, Extension agronomist for broadleaf crops and co-organizer of the conference.
