Ian Schweizer, 38, has been charged with simple assault for attempting to cause “bodily injury to another,” according to Sussex County Sheriff’s records. He is currently in the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Institute ahead of a Superior Court hearing. In 2017, a woman accused Schweizer of attacking her outside a bar. Troopers arrested him, but the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office decided there was not enough evidence to bring to court, which led both sides to accuse the other of misconduct.

Wantage NJ fatal stabbing under investigation by police

New Jersey Herald A 46-year-old Wantage man was fatally stabbed in an altercation in the township Thursday evening, the Sussex County Prosecutor s Office said on Friday.  The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. at a home on Lewisburg Road, according to Trooper Alejandro Goez, a New Jersey State Police spokesman. The single-family home is located just off of  Route 23. The man was taken by ambulance to Newton Medical Center where he died of his injuries, according to Goez. A 59-year-old man, also of Wantage, was also stabbed during the incident but was treated at the hospital and released. Goez and First Assistant Prosecutor Gregory Mueller declined to release their names, citing the continuing investigation. Mueller said there is no sign of a continuing threat to the public.

Officers were called about 1:45 p.m. to the Newton Town Centre apartments on Spring Street, according to Gregory Mueller, Sussex County’s first assistant prosecutor. “The police responded to a call involving an individual in distress,” Mueller said. When officers arrived, the man fired one shot from a handgun “in the direction of one of the officers,” Mueller said.
