Greece Athena graduate receives Helfer Youth Scholarship

The 2021 Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Scholarship is going to Greece Athena High School graduate Halie Cardon, who was recognized during a Town Board meeting with a proclamation and $2,000 check.
The scholarship annually recognizes a student that regularly upholds exemplary moral values, devotes time and energy into helping serve the Greece community, and consistently displays outstanding leadership skills. It was established by the town to highlight Helfer’s character, virtue and love of learning and public service. Helfer served on the Greece Youth Board, as a town councilman for 10 years and as deputy supervisor until his passing in 2014.

Meghan E. Gallivan and Ryan M. Scott were united in marriage on April 24, 2021, at the home of the bride’s parents with the father of the bride officiating. The bride is the daughter of Edward and Lisa Gallivan of Silver Creek.
The groom is the son of Michael and Karen Scott of Rochester. Kendra Gallivan, sister-in-law of the bride, served as matron of honor with Jared Scott, brother of the groom, serving as best man.
The bride is a graduate of Silver Creek High School and SUNY Fredonia. She is employed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at ECMC in Buffalo.

Robin Cooper, a security guard at Greece Athena High School in Rochester, New York was sitting in the lunchroom as students ate on Feb. 26, surveillance footage showed.
Suddenly, a student is seen standing up, quickly making his way over to Cooper, who appeared to immediately understand that the student was choking and proceeded to perform the Heimlich maneuver on him.
