Parapet failure rail line reopens after five weeks of repairs
Rail services between Stonehaven and Montrose have resumed today following completion of bridge repairs that closed the line in mid-January.
Investigations into the cause of the failure at Carmont, which occurred just months after the previous inspection, are still ongoing but Network Rail has confirmed that “no significant deterioration in structural condition was found” during the work.
In addition to reconstructing the failed parapet wall, and despite the findings of the inspection, Network Rail’s site team also installed additional concrete supports on the bridge deck to help retain and support the track and ballast and ties through the bridge to strengthen the overall structure. New track and supporting ballast have also been installed on the southbound side on the bridge.
