Co-op sector stunned as Vaghajibhai and Dr Saxena succumb to Covid 19

Spreading its tentacles far and wide, the dangerous Covid 19 Virus on Saturday killed two senior cooperators in the country Kribhco’s former Chairman V R Patel and IFFCO’s former Director of Cooperative Relations, Dr G N Saxena. The news of Vaghajibhai’s demise spread like a wild-fire. His admirers and well-wishers expressed shock and dismay on social media as soon as Kribhco’s MD Rajan Choudhary shared the news. Kribhco MD Rajan Chowdhary wrote “Very sad news! Our Ex-Chairman Shri Vaghajibhai Boda succumbed to COVID-19 today (24 April).” Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Singh, who has worked with Patel in the Kribhco Board in the past, offered tributes to the departed soul on behalf of Biscomaun and state of Bihar.

Chandra Pal takes shot of vaccine Kribhco Chairman Chandra Pal Singh Yadav took the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Noida based Sumitra Hospital on Monday when the nationwide vaccination of 60-plus age group people began. The news was shared by Yadav through his Facebook wall. He wrote, “Took first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Sumitra Hospital, Noida”. There has been a good response from the public to the drive at the government and private COVID vaccination centers. IFFCO’s MD was the one of the first to take the shot when the campaign began. Earlier, Nafcub President Jyotindra Mehta had taken the shot.

NCUI celebrates Women’s Day with 100 power women 50% members in primary level co-ops should be women: Chandra Pal NCUI, the highest body of Indian cooperative movement organized a conference on the occasion of International Women’s Day in New Delhi on 8th March. More than 100 women representatives of various cooperatives organizations attended the event, informs a press release issued by the organization. In his address on the occasion, Dileep Sanghani, NCUI President underlined the importance of International Women’s Day, and assured women attendees of his full support for their economic activities. Sanghani called upon women leaders to come up with new ideas and projects to be executed through cooperatives. Apart from generating employment, cooperatives ensure benefits are equitably shared among all members, he added.

Co-operators meet Sherpa; discusses Co-op Development Forum

Sahakar Bharati leader Satish Marathe, Uday Joshi, D N Thakur and others met India’s Sherpa to the G20 and former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday at his office in Delhi and discussed a host of issues pertaining to the cooperative sector. The constitution of the Cooperative Development Forum (CDF) also came up during the discussion, among others. Talking to Indian Cooperative Marathe said, “We met Sri Prabhu and discussed the issue of the establishment of the Cooperative Development Forum (CDF). We hope that in the middle of March, the inauguration of the CDF will be held. The office will be in Delhi and the forum will work to strengthen the cooperative movement of the country”, he added.

Professionalizing co-ops a big challenge for India: Sanghani

The National Centre for Cooperative Education of National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) started a 12 Weeks Online Diploma Program titled “Diploma in Cooperative Education and Development” from 1st February 2021. The Diploma which was inaugurated by NCUI President Dileep Sanghani, has about 45 participants from Nepal and various states of India like Assam, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Telangana, Gujarat, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir etc. The Diploma subject includes Cooperative Education, Environment of Cooperative, Cooperative Management, Accounting & Taxation and Cooperative Law. Welcoming the participants, President NCUI Sanghani said Professionalization is a big challenge for the cooperative organisations today. With more than 8 lakh cooperatives functioning in various areas of socio-economic activities, the cooperatives in India have many success stories like AMUL, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, Uralungal Cooperative Society, etc.
