Study finds massive doubts over Australian forests ability to recover from bushfires - World News

2021-01-21 01:05:55 GMT2021-01-21 09:05:55(Beijing Time) Xinhua English CANBERRA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) A study has revealed massive concerns about Australian forests long-term recovery from the devastating 2019-20 bushfires. The study, which was published by Australian National University (ANU) and Griffith University on Thursday, warned that early signs of recovery from the fires could be deceiving. It found that the drought that preceded the 2019-20 bushfire season, which has been dubbed the Black Summer, was so severe that it reduced forests capacity for regrowth. More than 18.6 million hectares of land, mostly on Australia s east coast, were burned by fires that raged for more than half a year.

St Edmund’s College student Thomas Parker scored 99.4 in the new ATAR system – the equivalent of an OP 1 under the old system. His St Eddie’s classmate Max Banditt scored 97.8, putting himself among the top 10 per cent of students across Queensland. Both have set themselves up for a bright future, and both credited the long hours they put into their schooling during those uncertain weeks of lockdown.
