I ve been writing about drinks for years now so it takes a very special product to stop me in my tracks. If I m lucky it’s once a year. Last week it happened three times in a row and I predict the memory will linger for years to come. The range includes a 21 year old finished in Caribbean rum casks, a 23 year old finished in French oak and the Grand Couronne 26 year old finished in Cognac casks and the samples were paired with a selection of handmade macarons from the Cafe Royal which turned out to be a stroke of decadent genius to be honest.

Glenfiddich Turns To Cognac Cask Finishing For Its Latest Premium Single Malt
Scotland’s Glenfiddich distillery has a long and noble history, with the first spirit emerging from its stills back in 1887. They produce a good number of expressions, with one of these being their more premium Grand Series (previous bottlings have included Grand Cru, finished in French cuvée oak casks, and Gran Reserva, finished in Caribbean rum casks). It is for this line up a new expression has been announced, being graced for a period by former Cognac casks.
Glenfiddich, a malt whisky brand has unveiled Grande Couronne, the newest addition to products.
With this, the whisky brand continues to challenge conventions with the unexpected marriage of two luxury worlds, according to a statement.
“Grande Couronne is a 26-year-old whisky matured in American and European oak casks at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, before the crowning glory – an extended finish of up to two years in meticulously sourced French Cognac casks – providing a true taste of elegance,” it explained.
It further described the Glenfiddich Grand Series, “as a beautifully disruptive series of single malts that oozes opulence and is designed to elevate occasions and celebratory moments in a whole new way.

James Beard award-winning chef, Alex Stratta, closed Stratta Kitchen. However, he s opening a new eatery in the same space. It ll be called Campo Italian Bistro and Bar, and it s set to open this May.
