But for years, Marcelle, who is a Democrat, has warned of a looming crisis in the aquifer. Energy companies and big industry are drawing vast amounts of water. And the withdrawals are allowing salt water to move in, threatening the main source of drinking water for a growing population of more than half a million.
Marcelle has been a state legislator since 2016, and her first piece of legislation directly tackled the city’s imminent water crisis.
“Why not do what’s right for people?” she asked.
Her legislation died in committee. So she tried again the next year and the next and the next and the next.

Wauwatosa-based insurance software company
Zywave Inc. was acquired by California-based private equity firm Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. from Los Angeles-based Aurora Capital Partners. Members of the management team, including CEO Jason Liu, invested alongside Clearlake Capital. Zywave also continued making its own deals, acquiring Texas-based Insurance Technologies Corp. and New York-based Advisen, which helped expand its international presence.

In a recent decision, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York upheld a bankruptcy court order that enjoined a plaintiff holding an asbestos claim from pursuing a state court products liability claim against the successor to Manville Forest Products Corporate (“MFP”). Notably, the Court reaffirmed that a claim relating to prepetition exposure to asbestos is a prepetition claim, even though the injury may not have manifested itself until after the petition date. Rather than being entitled to pursue her claim against MFP’s successor, the plaintiff was relegated to asserting a claim against the Manville Trust – the entity that was established more than 30 years ago to provide a source of recovery for injured persons.
