Deputy MacSharry described Graham Monaghan as a very brave individual, a friend of his for 40 years. He is in his 50th year and is a survivor of residential institutions abuse. He has been through the redress scheme that we had in the past and it is very important that we embrace his testimony as we set out to bring some level of justice to the victims and survivors of the mother and baby homes scandal.
Deputy MacSharry went on to read the words of Mr Monaghan: I discovered I had been the victim of repeated physical abuse as an infant in care and with legal advice set about making a submission to the Redress Board.
