Devil s Porridge Museum marks International Volunteers Day

Judith Hewitt, museum manager, marked the day on Saturday. She said: We have over 40 volunteers in all sorts of roles. Volunteers help out in a range of way including running the Cordite Club for older people in the community. Its members have lunch and a talk or performance each time they meet. Unfortunately, they haven t been able to have their usual Christmas celebrations but our volunteers, Eleanor Oswald and Sheila Gibson, visited them at home to deliver presents and festive cheer in a safe, socially distanced way. This was so kind and thoughtful of them. Another volunteer is Graham Croft, vice chairman, who said: “When we moved up here from Kent, I quickly became a volunteer and helped out in all sorts of ways including welcoming visitors and evening openings for groups visits.”
