The Save A Warrior non-profit has applied for grants through The Gannett Foundation’s A Community Thrives program. Now it needs your support.
Gannett is the parent company of The Advocate/NewarkAdvocate.com. The Gannett Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Gannett. A Community Thrives supports nonprofit organizations’ projects focused on community building and has distributed more than $12 million in grants and donations since 2017.
The crowd-funding campaign period, which is Phase 2 of the program, runs July 19 to Aug. 13. Organizations need to raise a required amount in order to be eligible for grant consideration.

Saginaw man pleads in 2019 head-on crash that left woman severely injured

SAGINAW, MI A Saginaw man who crashed a truck into another vehicle nearly two years ago, leaving a woman seriously injured in the process, has accepted a plea deal.
Jeffrey A. Brady, 30, on Wednesday, May 5, appeared before Saginaw County Circuit Judge Janet M. Boes and pleaded no contest to a single count of reckless driving causing serious bodily impairment.
The charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Defense attorney Eldor R. Herrmann said there was no sentencing agreement reached with prosecutors. He added the advisory sentencing guidelines have been calculated at seven to 23 months.
