Logistics Conference 2021: Diversity & Inclusion Experts from across the industry shared their knowledge and personal experiences of diversity and inclusion in the logistics sphere, as well as practical tips for developing an inclusive workplace.
Kimberley McIntosh, Service Delivery Leader for Central and East London at Royal Mail, opened proceedings with a discussion on supporters and active allies. Supporters are people who understand the value and is generally supportive of diversity and inclusion, whereas active allies take a stand with concrete actions to address the diversity and inclusion agenda in the workplace and in the wider community. Recent high-profile movements, such as Me Too and Black Lives Matter, have highlighted prominent inequalities and have forced people in positions of power to reflect and make visible steps to address inequalities beyond a performative gesture.

WRITER AND editor Kimberly Mcintosh has taken to social media, and claims she had a less than positive experience working with broadcaster Channel 4 News.
She was invited to speak on a television news segment on the day of Prince Phillip’s funeral. McIntosh says she was assured by a producer that questions about republicanism would not be raised, given that people might be mourning Prince Phillip’s death on the day of his funeral.

Chanel Ambrose was swept up by the sea of excitement around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. The 33-year-old loved how much Meghan tapped into her culture and heritage for the event: from the choir, the preacher, to her mum, with her natural hair, standing by her side.
She hoped the wedding and what it would symbolise might lead to a greater acceptance of black women across all sectors of society.
Instead, as far as Ambrose is concerned, Meghan has faced a torrent of abuse from the media and apparent hostility from the royal family. “And every time she’s scrutinised, it unfortunately trickles down to all of us,” she says.
