Library to stay open a while longer

FARRELL â Farrell Council adopted on Monday a preliminary budget that raises property taxes and allows the Stey-Nevant Library, to stay open, at least for a while.
The budget, which calls for spending $3.4 million, includes a 4.5-mill tax increase to 32.17 mills. The preliminary spending plan also includes about $60,000 to allow the library to operate for the first three months of 2021.Â
Farrell has been buffeted economically this year by COVID-19 and the strike at NLMK Pennsylvaniaâs mill in the city. The pandemic forced Farrell to close the city building and affected several staff members.

FARRELLÂ â The Farrell branch of First National Bank of Pennsylvania will soon be closing, to the dissatisfaction of city residents.Â
First National Bank informed customers of the closure in a letter dated Dec. 4. The branch, at 1030 Indiana Ave. will close in March, according to the letter.
When the FNB location in Farrell closes, there will no longer be a physical banking location in the city.
âThere are a lot of unhappy people,â said Terrence Crumby, a Farrell city councilman. âI had several phone calls from the citizens asking what can we do if we wonât have a bank in the city anymore.â
