Lockdown lifted at 10 a.m.
Members of the DPD searched a wooded area in close proximity to both DMS and DPS early Monday morning after a report of a black male running with a long rifle in the area.

Early Monday morning at 8:27 the Dyersburg Police Department responded to a call from a local citizen stating they witnessed a black male running across Frank Maynard Blvd. with a long rifle.
The call resulted in both the Dyersburg Middle School as well as the Dyersburg Primary School being placed on lockdown while members of the DPD searched for the subject.
On Thursday afternoon, Dyersburg City Schools announced the implementation of modified Phase 3, beginning Monday, April 19, for all city schools. Under the new phase, masks will be optional for students and staff members and visitors will begin to be invited into the school buildings.

Speaking on the recent phase announcement, Dyersburg City Schools Director Kim Worley told the State Gazette, This is a great move for our students and families. Everybody wants a little hope to return to normal. I think this gives everybody a feeling of hope thats the direction were moving.
Worley noted the deciding factors for the phase change were the decrease of COVID-19 cases within the community and monitoring COVID numbers following Spring Break.

Following Tennessee Governor Bill Lee s signing over Executive Order 70 on Sunday night, the Dyersburg City School system released a statement on Monday evening in regards to the order as well as the guidelines released by the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association earlier in the day.
The statement read:
On December 20, Governor Bill Lee signed Executive Order 70, which limits indoor gatherings to 10 or fewer people and encourages those gatherings to only include immediate family household members. While the spread of the virus is at an all-time high, Dyersburg City Schools must do our part to prevent further spread. In Governor Lee s address he also discussed the importance of school activities, but he went on to say that further restrictions would be released from TSSAA on Monday.
