A DEDICATED community stalwart is to retire after serving her community for 29 years. Mistley postmaster Frances McMillan has been running the village’s Post Office, in High Street, since September 1991. In her absence, it will now temporarily close tomorrow. Following 20 years of commuting to London for her former job as a consultant, Mrs McMillian was ready for a new challenge and a change in environment at the turn of the nineties. After looking at many branches in the Essex area, she chose Mistley Post Office inside a 17th century coaching inn. Nearly three decades later, Mrs McMillan said she has many fond memories running the branch, especially the friendships she has forged with the community.
