Chicago P.D. Season 8, Episode 13 was a dramatic one that debuted on Wednesday night. Called Trouble Dolls, it involved a group that was stealing babies from women and then selling them.
The case was a really dark one, but it was also intended to be personal for Officer Kim Burgess, who was taking the next steps to adopt the girl she has been fostering (Makayla).
On the last episode of Chicago P.D., Voight led the way as the team worked to track down a murderer and rapist. He crossed some lines when reporting what happened, but this episode didn’t end up addressing that particular open thread on the show.

Chicago P.D. s latest episode saw Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) nearly getting shot while chasing a suspect, and also struggling with her decision to adopt Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams) after her parents were murdered.
With all that drama, and Burgess thinking hard about what kind of mother she wants to be, fans of the NBC show were searching for clues as to whether the character is set to leave.

Speaking of Burgess new role as a mother, Squerciati told TV Line: I think the balancing aspect of being a working mom will always be present. In order to be a mom cop, you have to leave that behind when you walk into the fire.

Chicago P.D. delivered one of its darkest episodes of Season 8 that started with the murder of a pregnant woman and only got more grisly from there, but it also delivered some lighter and deeply layered moments courtesy of Burgess and her bond with Makayla. That s not to say that this was an easy episode for Burgess as she really faced her own mortality and what her death would mean for her daughter. Kim Burgess just took a crucial step forward in her adoption of Makayla. This week’s episode, titled “Trouble Dolls,” saw the Intelligence detective make the important decision to declare a custodial guardian someone who would care for the young girl in the event that anything ever happened to her.

After a heart-to-heart with Platt, Burgess called Ruzek over to ask if he would be that person for her. Confused at first (given that they haven’t seen eye-to-eye in recent weeks), Ruzek accepted the offer thus ending their brief falling out. Though this doesn’t mean the pair is back together romantically, it does drive home the fact that they’ll always support each other no matter what they’re going through.
