One of the first things a person entering Pappas Dinner saw was the friends and family wall – a collection of over 40 photos that commemorate just some of the special relationships the Pappas family has cultivated inside their Apalachee Parkway restaurant over the past five years.
On Sunday, the family said farewell to their beloved customers for the last time in the diner. We re not saying goodbye, we re saying see you around town, Owner Kim Pappas said. Although the diner is closing, the Pappas family plans to stay in touch with those they ve met along the way.
Kim s husband Spiro, 80, moved to the United States from Cyprus and opened his first restaurant in New York City at age 15 and has owned many since, including multiple in South Florida where he met Kim. Ver. Rev. Archimandrite Demetrios Simeonidis (July 31, 1938), lovingly known as Father D., fell asleep in the Lord Sunday, February 14, 2021. He served the Holy Greek Orthodox Church faithfully for fifty-two years, becoming a guiding light, Spiritual Father, and dear friend to thousands of people he met throughout his ministry. All who met Father Demetrios loved him. He was humble, kind, generous, and wise, and exemplified every day what it means to live a Christ-centered life.
Father Demetrios was raised in Hamilton, Ontario, where he felt his calling to the priesthood at an early age and left his home in 1957 to attend Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts. After graduating in 1964, he headed west to serve at the Assumption Cathedral as Youth Director and Greek School teacher in Denver, Colorado. INVERNESS TOWNSHIP At the request of a potential developer in the area, as well as The Brook, Inverness Township is discussing potentially having a speed study done on Townline Road between Weld-Tech and Stempky Street.
Inverness Township Trustee Greg Elliott said this was started from the developer he is working to bring the Cheboygan Estates housing development to the old Stempky Farm property on Western Avenue. The city wanted after approving the site plan for that they were asking that maybe we d look at seeing about doing a speed study as you re coming in, from about Weld-Tech to Stempky Street, said Elliott. And then also, Kim Pappas from The Brook, she was asking also about the speeds, for basically the senior citizens coming out of The Brook all of the time.
