Despite the pandemic, last summer was some of our busiest yet with tourists from around the country visiting Jackson Hole and Yellowstone National Park, said Karen Connelly, who works as the chief communications officer for St. John s Health. In a meeting on Friday afternoon the board of trustees at the hospital passed the COVID safety bonus program with unanimous support. Over $500,000 was allotted toward the program.

Wyoming has highest level of vaccine hesitancy in the country

One-third of Wyoming adults say they are hesitant about getting a COVID-19 vaccine, the highest rate in the country. That’s according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, which has been polling households through its Pulse survey. In its most recent round of surveys, the Census found that 16.7% of adults said they would “definitely not” get a vaccine and 16.5% would “probably not” receive one. If the 33.2% overall level of hesitancy holds true, it could hamper the state’s drive to reach herd immunity from COVID-19, which has been estimated to be between 70% and 80% protection across the population.

Teton County s vaccination rate is far ahead of the state, nation

Roughly two in five Teton County residents are fully vaccinated. That’s almost double the statewide rate, according to Wyoming Department of Health data. Despite the rosy numbers, however, any threshold of community protection isn’t worth much if it’s only at the county level. “Until the whole state and the people that are traveling here are fully vaccinated, you personally might be safer, but that doesn’t mean that we can get this pandemic behind us,” county Director of Health Jodie Pond said. Still, the numbers are an encouraging sign that the county is charging forward in its vaccination campaign. The Wyoming Health Department now publishes county-level immunization estimates, and Teton County has a much higher rate than any other in Wyoming at 39.72% as of Tuesday afternoon, though that data may lag by up to 72 hours.
