Franklin man caught drug driving stolen car

A FRANKLIN man was under the influence of drugs when police found him driving a stolen car through Canberra yesterday (July 7).  The man, a 26-year-old, was with a woman, a 23-year-old from Batemans Bay, when police, at about 11.30am, saw them in a white Nissan X-Trail with QLD registration plates travelling on Ginninderra Drive, Kaleen. Police checks revealed the registration plates did not belong to the vehicle, and both the vehicle and plates had been reported stolen earlier this week. The driver didn’t stop for police and officers were forced to follow the vehicle through multiple north side suburbs onto Mulligans Flat Road where it entered NSW. A short time later the vehicle re-entered the ACT, where policed used a device to deflate its tyres.

THE ACT government has put a major parcel of land on the Lake Ginninderra waterfront back up for sale for the third time and community representatives are worried that it’ll result in more Belconnen green space being turned into units. The Suburban Land Agency is now seeking submissions from developers for the land located on Evelyn Parker Place, the former site of the Belconnen Water Police Station, located just nearby the Lake Ginninderra Scouts Hall. Twice before the land has gone on the market but received a lack of suitable interest.

Three institutions named for failure to join National Redress Scheme

Date Time Three institutions named for failure to join National Redress Scheme Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston has today named three institutions which have failed to fulfil their moral obligations to sign up to the National Redress Scheme. These institutions are Forrest Tennis Club (ACT), CYMS Basketball Association (VIC) and Devonport Community Church (TAS). These institutions will now be ineligible to apply for any future Commonwealth grant funding and are at risk of having the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission revoke any relevant charitable status. Minister Ruston also announced that a further 32 new organisations had joined the Scheme, including the AFL which includes their national AusKick program and the state AFL associations.
